The Ottawa Area Model Yacht Club once again had a very pleasant lunch at Kristy's with 15 members attending.

Some of our members did not make the meeting today because of sickness, or caring for others who are sick. We missed them, and wish all a speedy recovery.

Topics of discussion.....

Lots of work by the City on a new, more powerful water pump for the pond led to a late start to the sailing season. However we had clear water and fewer weeds this summer.

A very successful Scale Regatta was held in July with skippers from Belleville, Kingston, Montreal and of course Ottawa. It is proposed that we have our third annual scale regatta on Friday 8th July 2016, so please mark your calendars.

Many thanks to Bob for his work in organising, rescheduling and running our Mini 12 regatta in late August. Also thanks to those that helped on the day with rescue boat and scoring. It was disappointing to have only 7 boats racing, but there was still some exciting races, and it was enjoyable for spectators and participants alike. We all noted that Greg is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in M12 racing! It was fortunate that A rigs were permitted this year as winds were light and variable. The entry fees just covered expenses, mainly because Bob was able to recycle/refurbish trophies. We pay the City for a permit and exclusive use of the pond for this event. (Approx $56)

There are currently no plans to have a M12 regatta at our pond next year, but it was suggested that we have organised racing on specific Mondays. Many thought this was a good idea.

Bernie will send out an email whenever he plans to sail on Wednesday evenings, so that others can join him.

It was also suggested that we do some sailing at weekends to hopefully attract new members who have to work during the week. This idea was also well received.

There is a shortage of used Mini 12's on the market right now, so if you hear of any please let us know. It is important to have boats available for potential new members. Bernie has one brand new hull for anyone wishing to build a new M12.

Weather permitting we will be pulling the marks from the pond this coming Monday.

Robert has volunteered to manage our website and encourages all members to send him photos or articles to put on the website. This can include boats or parts for sale, or wanted. Thank you Robert!

Robert has also printed and bound some very nice copies of Mini 12 construction, Class and basic sailing rules. Several members took a copy home with them.

Paul Wissing gave a very interesting "show and tell" on his 40 year old kit for a DMI Schoow. This is an interesting Dutch boat with Side Boards, and will make a great building project.

Bill collected membership forms and cheques from those wanting to renew their CRYA membership by mail. He will consolidate and mail in one envelope.

There was a question raised after the meeting on what insurance is available to members through the CRYA. Bill will follow up to try and get that question answered.

Please let me know if there are any errors or omissions.

Most of all have a great winter.

Bill.
