Are there any members sailing larger boats than the Mini12?  I'm thinking of getting something bigger...

The EC12 is one of the nicest bigger sailboats.  It weighs in around 25 lbs.  There are lots in other clubs, especially in the US, but none in the Ottawa club.  There are several websites on building and sailing the EC12.  Also Nigel in Montreal has been designing a new, bigger sailboat.  Check with him, as I think he has a mold now.  Bill.

Nice! Thanks Bill.  Do you know if there are guys sailing EC12's in the surounding clubs (between Toronto and Quebec City)?  I saw some pics of Nigels trimaran; that looks like fun! But I think if I build 3 hulls - I'd want 3 boats... Too much work for me.

Nigel's "Big Red" is a monohul with a built-in keel (like the M12) and weighs in at about 20lb. I have hull #1 (the original plug from which the mold was made). We should have a fleet of about 7 boats on the water this summer (3 woodies and the rest fiberglass). So far it seems to be a fast and docile performer. In trials last year it was faster than a M12 when equipped with a M12 rig. We are experimenting with different rigs, including some of IOM" A" rig height. You can contact Nigel (our President) through the WISMC site to explore the possibility of him making a hull. I would add a picture but cannot figure out how to do so.

Nigel's trimaran is still very much in the development stahe. Promises to be very fast, but quite a chalenge to sail, tack and keep right side up.

Thanks! And welcome to the site. I'm in touch with Nigel regularly. I'd probably have one of his new boats, except that I don't build! I'm always looking for something used so I don't have to do any of the hard work. I guess it'll be a year or two before there are any used ones for sale. EC12's on the other hand.... Well see!

The EC12 I was interested in has disapeared :(

I'm now thinking more seriously about an S50 from Nigel.  It does look like a capable boat and there seems to be a developing fleet of them in Montreal.  Is anyone else in Ottawa interested?

After a little research, it appears the S50 is going to be my next boat.  I'm going to try and get one ready for next spring.  It would be more interesting if there was another one in Ottawa... Is anyone else interested?!?
