Just so everyone knows that thanks to Scot's and the club membership's generosity we collected the sum of $200 to donate to a charity of our choice. It was suggested that the donation be made to the Mission. Are there any other suggestions such as the food bank. Is there a foundation or charity in the name of Andy Hayden that might be appropriate.

another option might be to donate to a cause more relevant to sailing:

If we can increase our visibility in the sailing comunity, we stand to gain membership.  Clearly donating to those less fortunate is a comendable action - but it would give us less exposure.

I've invited folks to post their ideas in the 'OAMYC News thread' in the members area - lets see what other ideas come up.

OK members. I have the money sitting at home but I have no direction from the membership on what I am supposed to do with it. I heard at the meeting that we wanted the donation to bring some recognotion and exposure for the sailing club. In my opinion donating to Cheo or the mission etc..... will not achieve this. I truly liked Scot's idea of supporting the 2 youth sailers trying to raise funds to go to the Worlds and represent Canada. That would give us some much needed exposure and would be promoting what we love to do. Sailing. Please get back to me either by email  ([email protected]) or express your opinion on here. I need to know.

let's set a date to make a decision on this.  How about: if we don't get any input, we go ahead and donate to the youth sailors.  We can give it a week to see if the others have any ideas.  As of Nov. 7th we'll get in touch with the BYC if there are no better sugestions.

Sound good to you guys?

this site has not exactly 'taken off' the way I had wished - but this conversation is much better than the monologues I used to have...

Thanks, Rick.
