I've been thinking of getting a landyacht - are there any club members that have tried this?  Is anyone interested in trying this with me?

sounds interesting but not just yet. Too much on my plate now. Show me what you are thinking about.

either S1 or S2 from that site.  Looks inexpensive and quick to setup.  Might be fun summer or winter in a parking lot.  In winter we could sit in a car to stay warm while we race.

2 way conversation again. No I don't think so. It was too cold for me to sail on friday with my hand problems so I guess winter sailing is out.

Looks like it could be fun though

Kevin Goom built one  - and I think its one to the models you are refering to -  mixed results.

Luffed and stalled very easily and seemed to remember he spent a LOT more time walking round getting it reorientated to the wind than 'sailing' it:)

Kind of like a multihull sail boat - fast as heck when it goes, not easy to tack and constantly in need of 'attention'

Was also sensitive to the rolling surface, needed to be smooth and flat or it would not get moving. If the wind died down and it stopped, usual meant another walk. Golf would  eem to be preferable sport for walking exercise. At least you can take a club to the ball when it misbehaves and needs some 'correction' administered.....

Other problem was finding a big open parking lot - shopping centers didn't work, full of cars 7 days a week now.

Got put on the shelf after a few trys and still sitting there.

Few ice boats been tried to - problem is NO ICE, River gets covered with snow and so far its proven to be impossible to sail on snow.

Hmmm I used to go ice fishing then realized one day there was all the ice I ever needed in my freezer:)

Now I hibernate in a warm workshop, build boats and boat bits in the winter and wait for the geese to come back and remind me its time to SAIL!.

Seems everything 'fast' on liquid (or solid) water is a challenge but that's what we seem to love about white wings pointing up

Would be boring otherwise and fast power boats would be the attraction.... just open the wallet and push the throttle, been there done that.. Rather be sailing with all its challenges to say nothing of the great people we get to share the passion with!

it's poetry in motion :)  where the skipper is the most important ingrediant in the equation.

Multihulls and land sailing are just variations on the theme with new challenges for the adventurous :).

But even 'slow' (?) boats are a challenge cause you still want to be in front of the one that's not a slow as yours... until there are none if front!
