This was in an email that Rick forwarded to me... Two members in our club myself being one of them have decided to build new ec12 boats this winter. So we will be putting our boats up for sale. One EC12 is a Hickman hull registered with AMYA number 575. This boat was completely refurbished by our master builder Paul Delaney 3 years ago. This boat runs using a three channel FM radio, controlling RMG 280 main winch, Hitec digital rudder and futaba jib adjuster. Both A and B rigs included along with custom wood sail box, cradle, launcher a must have to carry the boat from the cradle to the water. Asking price $1,500.00 ready to go, nothing to do but play! More pics available upon request. bernie.pepin(at)sympatico.ca Pics in the photo gallery - http/ottawasailing.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=12598373 The other is an Ozman also with A and B rigs. It is an Ozman hull, a little narrow up at the bow then the new ones today . They say the ozman has an advantage because of the hull and being an ozman, but I have never really noticed the difference. it has an RMG winch, and Digital rudder servo, and an 3808 servo for the jib trimmer. all Hi tec. black and white hull and wood deck. The rigs are three years old and the sails are A set is Vector, and B set is Carr but older. I have never used them. The boat is 23 and a half pounds which is what they are supposed to weight. Most importantly it is a very well balanced boat. The boat is registered with the CRYA and AMYA. So I can race in Detroit and Canada. sail no# 05 for Canada and 2005 for the USA. Greg Pare Windsor model Yacht Club. dpare16(at)cogeco.ca Pics in the photo gallery - http://ottawasailing.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=12598373 ; Price is 1,500.00 each plus all shipping cost, unless buyers travel to pickup. Thanks, please let everyone up there in your beautiful city know.

The pics of Gregs boat and Bernies boat look fantastic - I may consider one, if I can come up with some money.

They look like really nice boats. I wonder if they are still competetive if the guys are building new boats? Scot. Thanks for posting info and pics. Bill.

Bernie and Greg are consistently in the the top 3 at their club in Windsor out of a fleet of 8 or so boats. Bernie and Paul Delaney went to the nationals in South Carolina a few weeks ago and ended up placing 27 and 28 in the final standings out of 34 of the best sailers and boats in North America. Are they as competitive as those boats, not so much. Are they competitive up here? Yes they would be. If you want to compete with the big boys then you should spend the big bucks and get the new offerings from Dudinsky and Ramos but be prepared for some sticker shock. My old hull is 30 some yrs old. Will she be competitive? No. Will she be fun to sail? Yep. Will I get a new hull someday? Probably. Rick

We had the 'Fun' verses 'Racing' discussion in Montreal this summer :)... outcome was unfortunately a bit sad. If we aren't having fun sailing, what's the point? From one VERY serious racing skipper, I will be the first to say I don't mind being second to someone with a faster boat or more likely, better sailed one if we all enjoyed ourselves and can look back at the days sailing as a positive experience. New boats (even 'old' new boats) are part of the fun, challenges and learning experience... so what it's not the 'latest and fastest' available, won't learn nothin' without some challenges:) Seems to me there are a few of the 'OLD" Minis that still seem to have a litle magic left in them or MAYBE it's a good skipper at the helm.....???? Still say its 95% skipper and MAYBE 5% boat that really counts and I would rather bet on a good skipper with a slow boat over a fast (?) boat in less 'skilled hands'. So IF the price is right and the bug bits..... don't worry if its old or new, GO FOR IT and have some fun! Nigel Nigel

Well said Nigel. I have to agree. These two boats are very well built and if a person wants to get into the class and be competitive they are a great alternative for sure. I chose an old boat to bring back up to racing standards because that is what I like to do. Building and tweeking and trying new ideas is my favorite thing about our hobby. This IS FUN for me. I understand the points made by the three of you. The question is: how much cash will I have left over after getting my S-50 ready to sail?!? I'd really like to have an EC-12 so that I can race with Dave and Rick, but I'm not sure I can spend $1500 to do that... Speaking of wich - how's my hull looking, Nigel?
